2006 MET-Rx World’s Strongest Man Competition

The 2006 MET-Rx World’s Strongest man competition was held on Sanya, China.

25 athletes from around the world battled through the qualifying rounds for one of the 10 places in the final. Only two athletes from each group would make it through to the acclaimed final.

This year saw the return of some old favourites including: MagnusSamuelsson, MarkFelix and PhilPfister. Alongside them a number of newcomers had fought for a place in this years WSM. These young guys hoped to pick up tips from the experienced campaigners, these included Sebastian Wenta-Poland, Darren Sadler-UK and Arild Haugen-Norway, who is training under the ever watchful eye of 2001 WSM winner Svend Karlsen.

But before the fun began, Sanya hosted an opening ceremony to rival any seen before at WSM. The athletes, dressed in local Sanya costume, were joined on the stage by dancers and performers from all corners of China. It was a colorful extravaganza and a fantastic welcome for the athletes and all those involved in the World’s Strongest Man event.
